Unforgettable cars

MORE people remember their first car than their first kiss, reveals a survey of over 1000 motorists.
The motors.co.uk poll showed over 97 percent could recall their first motor.
First kiss? 90 percent…
‘Our first car is a rite of passage,’ said motors.co.uk marketing manager Katie Armitage. ’It’s our first motoring love, and one we rarely forget.’
Car dealers may thus be interested in the criteria for these first cars, particularly if they can help make the sales process just as memorable.
Well, 52 percent say price above all is crucial. The average purchase price is less than £1000.
Don’t expect any upsales though – three in four didn’t even carry out a provenance check.
Maybe this is where car dealers can help educate first-time motorists, as to the potential pitfalls of the used car world?
‘The purchase of a first car is usually value driven, and our first chance to dip our toe in the car-buying pool, said Armitage.
‘As such, we find buyers are simply unaware of the dangers of potentially buying a stolen, or unsafe car, or how to carry out the essential checks to avoid dodgy purchases.
‘There are some fantastic bargains to be had from legitimate sellers, but if a deal looks too good to be true, it usually is.
‘Taking silly risks,’ she warned buyers, ‘could cost thousands – or even your life.’
Another fact revealed by the survey was that two in three people also name their first car. Car Dealer Magazine was struck by some of the names appearing on the survey, which included:
• Sir Steering Wheel
• Yellow Pig
• Black Beauty
• Godsend
