SsangYong April debut
March 25th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
SsangYong has confirmed the unveiling of an ‘almost production ready’ C200 concept for the Seoul Motor Show.
The vital showcase reveals the look of SsangYong’s most important car ever – the C200 crossover.
That’s because the future viability of the company, currently in administration, rests on this crucial new machine.
The rest of the range hasn’t been forgotten, though: SsangYong will also show a diesel hybrid version of the Kyron. A production date has not been set, but the Korean company really is ahead of the curve with it.
The Kyron diesel hybrid could even make it to market as the world’s first series production diesel hybrid.
All eyes will be on the Giugiaro-designed C200, though. Similar in size to the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, it uses a car-like monocoque and comes in either front or four-wheel drive.
It will use an all-new 2.0-litre diesel, boasting an extremely impressive 175bhp. Impressively, it is Euro 5 emissions compliant – which, along with the promise of low CO2 figures, could give some advantageous tax rates.
SsangYong is so confident that its future is secure, work has already started on the production line that will build the C200. What’s more, it is reported to be ahead of schedule.
