Vauxhall: NO decision
August 22nd, 2009 by Richard Aucock
VAUXHALL’S future remains unclear, after a meeting of GM Europe chiefs failed to make a decision.
The Board was expected to signal a preference for the sale of the company to one of two firms – Magna or RHJ International.
Instead, though, the statement released late last night was brief.
‘The GM Board of Directors met today to discuss options for Opel.
‘No decision was taken.’
Rumours are that this has frustrated Germany, which is keen for a decision before elections start in September.
The German Government is pressing GM to choose the Magna option, as it would result in fewer German job losses.
However, the GM Board has reportedly realised it now needs to take the RHJ bid more seriously. Analysists also report the RHJ proposal would be easier to work through.
