Used 4×4 prices record
USED 4×4 prices hit record levels at BCA car auctions last month due to the extended snowfall.
Demand for the vehicles saw a rise in values of 5.2 percent over December.
This means values have almost doubled over the last year and a half! The January average value of an SUV was £12,918 – a rise of £647 in December, making the highest average price ever recorded by BCA.
‘Nothing makes four-wheel drive more attractive than a dusting of snow around the UK,’ said BCA director Tony Gannon.
‘The severe weather we have had in recent weeks will have convinced many drivers that they now need a 4×4.’ Quite a change from 18 months ago, he says, where many car dealers were actually refusing to stock 4×4s at all.
Such a turnaround has been exceptional, reckons Gannon.
‘Of all the car sectors affected by the economic downturn, few fell harder or faster than the 4×4/Sports Utility sector and few have recovered as well in the intervening months.’
