UK new car production up
December 18th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
SMMT figures show a big rise in UK car production with the number of cars built here last month rising by 15.7 percent.
Boss Paul Everitt said November production saw the FIRST increase since September 2008.
This is a reflection of the ‘positive impact of scrappage schemes and economic stability in a number of major European markets’.
The industry is not out of the water yet, though. ‘Total vehicle production is still well below previous levels.’ The latest figures show total cars built in the UK this year are down 34 percent on last year.
’2010 is set to be another tough year with considerable uncertainty at home and abroad.’
What can be done? Plenty, said Everitt. ‘It is essential that Governments continue to sustain and strengthen economic recovery, improving access to credit and encouraging investment in new technologies and products.’
