Time 4:01 am, December 15, 2009

toyota-daihatsu-car-dealer-magazineRUMOURS Toyota will be taking over the UK importation rights for Daihatsu are ‘untrue’, says the IM Group.

A number of Daihatsu franchise owners Car Dealer Magazine has spoken to have said they believe Toyota will be taking over distribution.

Toyota owns 51.2 per cent of Daihatsu.

However, tonight a spokeswoman for IMG said the rumour was ‘absolute rubbish’ and categorically ‘untrue’.

One dealer told us: ‘It makes sense for Toyota as they own half of Daihatsu and they already badge many of their cars as Dahiatsus in Japan. We understand they’ll take over distribution.’

A spokesman for Toyota said ‘no comment’.
