Toyota recall update
January 29th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
TOYOTA has revealed that 8 models will be recalled across Europe to fix the potential sticking accelerator problem.
Car Dealer Magazine has just seen the full list, and can bring you full details, including production start and end dates, here.
It includes some real big sellers for the brand:
• Aygo (Feb 2005 – Aug 2009)
• IQ (Nov 2008 – Nov 2009)
• Yaris (Nov 2005 – Sep 2009)
• Auris (Oct 2006 – 5 Jan 2010)
• Corolla (Oct 2006 – Dec 2009)
• Verso (Feb 2009 – 5 Jan 2010)
• Avensis (Nov 2008 – Dec 2009)
• RAV4 (Nov 2005 – Nov 2009)
The extent of the recall, and the large numbers of popular models involved, means that Toyota car dealers could be set for a busy time. Affected models could reach 1.8 million cars Europe-wide.
No Toyotas other than those listed are affected, though. Furthermore, no Lexus vehicles are affected, either.
Toyota Europe president Tadashi Arashima admitted the current situation is causing some big concerns – ‘we deeply regret it.
‘We would also like to reassure customers: the potential accelerator pedal issue only occurs in very rare circumstances. The announced action is a preventive measure aimed to guarantee the highest safety standards to all customers.’
He did confirm that Toyota has already worked out a fix, and is in the final stages of checking it will all work without fail. Once this is done, the firm says it will tell car dealers all they need to know – and also communicate to customers what they need to do, too.
Luckily, the fault has already been fixed on the production line, so Toyota won’t be stopping new car production in Europe.
‘Only a limited number of incidents have been reported in Europe, and Toyota Motor Europe is not aware of any accident resulting from this issue,’ added Arashima.
‘Toyota is making every effort to address this situation for our customers as quickly as possible.’
