Toyota recall to cost $2bn
February 4th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
TOYOTA faces a big financial hit from the accelerator pedal recall crisis as UK repair plans take shape.
Analysts say the bill could top $2bn. That does not include the additional cost of separate issues surrounding the Toyota Prius in Japan.
Toyota GB has also revealed it has now identified all the affected owners in the UK – 180,865 of them. The DVLA is to assist in contacting owners.
They will be asked to take their car to a Toyota car dealer, for a 30-minute repair which Car Dealer Magazine has already detailed.
In a development from earlier news, the firm adds that manual Aygo and RAV4 models are NOT included in the car recall. This suggests that Peugeot and Citroen sister cars to the Aygo – and their respective car dealers – will also escape recall action, though this has yet to be confirmed.
Parts needed for the fix will arrive in the UK from next week. The repairs procedure will launch at car dealers from 10 February.
The firm has also set up a dedicated page on its website, for full information on the recall. Car dealers can point their customers to the special Toyota recall page.
