Toyota delivers on times
March 4th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
TOYOTA is making a concerted effort to reduce its delivery times with the UK taking a leading role.
The firm has been running a ‘Speed Project’ for the past 2 years, with Toyota UK chief Miguel Fonseca playing a leading role in the plan.
Toyota introduced the programme in response to customer feedback over its long lead times. The aim is to tackle this with faster delivery, more options and colour choices, and more accurate delivery times.
‘We plan to more accurately anticipate customer needs,’ said Didier Leroy. ‘This will give a big reduction in lead times.
‘For car dealers, it will also give them much more flexibility in how they can order cars, and greater options for letting customers specify cars.
‘It will also mean that when we commit to a delivery date with customers, we will be able to respect that 100 percent.’
Toyota is working hard on the project given the traditional issues over delivery times from its Japan-built models. More centralised European production is allowing the firm to make big gains quick: the Speed Project will accelerate these and ease a longstanding problem for Toyota car dealers.
