Suncream for cars opp

SCORCHING weather this week presents an upsell opportunity to savvy car dealer aftersales departments.
Autoglym has revealed that strong sunlight is more damaging to car paint than freezing weather.
It’s therefore important car owners protect their motors – by using guidance, and products, from your aftersales guys.
Body panel temperatures can top 50 deg Celsius: this, with the effects of UV light, plus tree sap and bird droppings, can soon eat into poorly protected paint. Tyres, plastics and rubber seals are also at risk.
The implications on retained values are clear.
Autoglym’s technical director, Hemant Patel, said that ‘the tests we carry out prove that thoroughly cleaned and protected cars will stand up to almost any weather conditions.
‘We all know the importance of using sun cream to care for our skin and, in the same way, a good coating of wax or polish can add a vital protective layer to a car’s paintwork.’
Autoglym’s top tips for summer product upsell:
• Car polish: defence against UV light
• Insect remover: removes need to rub at paintwork during cleaning
• Tar remover: dissolves dried-on tar spots
• Glass polish: clears dried-on bug splats
• Screenwash: removes insets on the go
• Leather care: prevents drying out
• Fabric hood cleaner: revives cabriolet roofs
