Snow drives up 4×4 leads

January 20th, 2010 by Richard Aucock

snow-drives-up-4x4-leadsCAR buyers are driving up demand for 4x4s at car dealers due to the worst weather in 3 decades.

Compucars reports that enquiries for off-roaders have risen by 10 percent since the weather has been bad.

Indeed, 18 percent of buyers reckon they’ll buy a 4×4 this year. Compare that to less than 5 percent who’ll buy an Audi TT-style sports car.

That’s not all – 4×4 leads also outscore compact executives, family cars, luxury cars, even superminis!

Rob Queen from Compucars said ‘it is no surprise that 4x4s are the most popular choice for motorists searching for their next car given the dreadful winter driving conditions.’

Prices are following suit, he adds, after a roller-coaster ride of lows and highs during 2008 and 2009. ‘We believe that prices of 4x4s will continue to stay high, especially through the first quarter of 2010.

‘Dealers need to source good quality 4x4s and advertise them online with multiple images, clear and accurate descriptions and a range of dealer contact details, to ensure quality leads.

Have you seen an upturn in demand for 4x4s at your car dealership?

  1. Mr. Happy (Happy I bought a Quattro TT) Says:

Car Dealer Magazine should fire this article’s author. There is an Audi TT all-wheel drive option, I own a 2008 TT Quattro and it absolutely excels on the German & Austrian Autobahns in all weather conditions. I’m driving it in the Italian Alps where I currently live and I have to tell you I pass Land Rovers and others of the SUV ilk with regularity. On that note, fire the editor that allowed this to go to publication. Obviously neither author nor editor know their arse from a hole in the ground.
