SMMT seeks van dealers
August 19th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
CAR and van body the SMMT will hold its latest online seminar next week – with the van sector as the subject.
Discussions will centre on the problems in the industry, and the opportunities which exist within it.
This comes after a slump in CV sales – last month’s sales figures were nearly 40 percent down on 2008. Whereas the new car sector is recovering, van sales remain under considerable pressure.
Who will be speaking?
• SMMT chief Paul Everitt – on key issues, industry initiatives
• Prof. Alan McKinnon – on future trends in freight demand, vehicle utilisation, efficiency and emissions
The 30-minute session will brief car dealers on all the latest trends in the industry – and, afterwards, there will be the opportunity to grill Everitt, too.
As the SMMT points out, the UK’s 8 van makers build more than 200,000 vans every year… it is thus a key sector for the motor industry.
