Skoda plans swappage
March 25th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
SWAPPAGE schemes continue to grow with Skoda the latest firm to introduce its post-scrappage scheme.
‘Happy Swapping’ is available to buyers of Skodas trading in a 52-plate car or older.
This will save them at least £2k, which takes the entry price for the brand down to £7340.
Head of Skoda Operations David Ovenden said the new scheme has been influenced by the customer-pleasing clarity of scrappage. ‘The scrappage scheme was an extremely effective initiative, which gave drivers a strong incentive to replace their old and less efficient vehicles for a brand new one.
‘Due to the fuel efficiency and excellent value of our cars, we found many new consumers which haven’t been in the market for a new car for many years, choosing a Skoda.
‘With this in mind, we wanted to launch our own programme which would allow those who narrowly missed out on the scrappage scheme to still benefit. We are confident it will be a real success.’
The usual scrappage provisos apply – the old car must have an MOT, be taxed and insured, and have been owned by the new car buyer for at least 3 months.
Has scrappage set something of a ‘swappage’ incentive trend among new car franchises in the UK?
