SEAT to get new city car
May 8th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
SEAT president Eric Schmitt has confirmed that SEAT will sell a version of the upcoming Volkswagen Up! city car.
The new SEAT will be a budget-priced replacement for the old SEAT Arosa, which contributed strongly to SEAT car dealer volumes.
No timings have been announced for the front-drive, front-engined Ford Ka rival, but concepts should start appearing by 2010.
Our insider at SEAT also revealed that Skoda will get a version of the budget car, too – but the SEAT will be the best looking of the bunch…
Other upcoming SEATs include, in 2010, an estate version of the Ibiza. The Ibiza ST will compete with the Skoda Fabia estate and Renault Clio Sport Tourer.
Right now, though, it’s high performance models which are keeping the Spanish brand busy. It’s just launched two hot cars – the 150bhp new Ibiza FR and the revised 240bhp Leon Cupra.
There’s yet more for SEAT car dealers to boast about, too. According to president Schmitt, SEAT’s quality and reliability levels are officially on the up.
The big European study which revealed this also showed it’s the new Ibiza that’s contributing heavily to the upturn.
With the startling new Bocanegra wowing the crowds over here in Barcelona too, it’s good news all round for SEAT car dealers!
