SEAT’s new Exeo prices will start at under £18,000, when the Audi-derived model hits dealers in the spring.

£17,740 is the starter list price of the 2.0 TDI 143 S variant, which SEAT claims is loaded with standard equipment

The model range, based on the old Audi A4, comprises of 6 2.0 TDI models and a 2.0 TSI performance range-topper. Yet even the most expensive 2.0 TDI costs less than £21,500.

This is for an SE Lux variant, which includes leather seats, 18-inch alloys and bi-xenon headlights.

Yet all versions get dual-zone climate control, a USB connector for the stereo, six-speed gearbox, cruise control, all-round electric windows, front fog lights and alloy wheels.

There is also an SE, which adds auto lights, rear parking sensors and a leather steering wheel. A Sport model includes, fittingly, sports seats and suspension, plus 18-inch alloys.

Sat nav is optionally available, as are intriguing features like a solar sunroof and double-glazed side glass.

The 2.0 TDI engine comes in 143PS or 170PS outputs. Significantly, both are the latest VW common-rail fuel injection units. The 143PS version emits 143g/km of CO2. Fleet-savvy SEAT dealers will be hoping the company can get this below 140g/km by the time of launch…

Using the engine from the Golf GTI, the £19,410 2.0 TSI hits 60mph in 7.3 seconds, but will be a minor player in the range. Despite prices undercutting the iconic Golf.

Head of SEAT UK, Peter Wyhinny, can’t wait for the new car. ‘The arrival of the new Exeo saloon in showrooms is sure to be one of the highlights of the year for SEAT.

‘I’ve experienced at first hand the quality, luxury and sporting performance of this new saloon, and I’m convinced that private and business buyers alike will be quick to spot the fabulous value offered by our newcomer.’
