Scrappage passes 1/4mil
December 8th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
SCRAPPAGE registrations have smashed the quarter-million mark after snaring a fifth of November sales.
21.6 percent of motors registered in November were under the scrappage scheme.
This means the impact of it remains huge, said SMMT chief Paul Everitt. ‘Scrappage continues to have a positive impact on vehicle registrations, contributing to the 57.6 percent increase in November’s registrations.’
Everitt explained that scrappage has lifted new car sales in each of the past 5 months – between May and November, total new car registrations increased by 5.7 percent.
‘It has helped to generate consumer confidence and SMMT urges Government to sustain the recovery and support the long-term future of the motor industry through its Pre-Budget Report.’
The Pre-Budget Report will be announced tomorrow, and covered extensively here on Car Dealer Magazine. Be sure to come back for live feeds!
Scrappage sales will not be changed
