Scrappage sales top 60k!
June 15th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
OFFICIAL sales figures today show the big positive effect scrappage is having on new car sales.
More than 60,000 orders have been placed so far – despite the scheme being ‘live’ for less than a month.
‘These figures speak for themselves,’ business secretary Lord Mandelson told the BBC.
‘Consumers know a good deal when they see one.’
This means that the scheme is eating well into the £300m allocated to it by the Government. What’s more, these sales came before car makers really perfected their scrappage deals.
What will the boost be going forward? Will the government have to consider extending the scheme, as the German government did?
Scrappage could be a story set to run and run…
