Mandy meets dealers
September 18th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
CAR dealers are meeting with Lord Mandelson TODAY – with a scrappage extension high on their demands.
The crunch summit with the SMMT will see car dealers plea for an addition to the cash-neutral scheme.
Scrappage funds are expected to run out by the end of the year. Many car dealers would like to see the scheme extended into the first few months of 2009.
This would help offset the impact of the expected VAT rise in January, and also maintain dealer footfall prior to the March registration plate change.
SMMT chief Paul Everitt told Car Dealer Magazine that ‘we don’t expect a decision to come out of the meeting,’ but he’s still hopeful to report more today.
‘They key message will be that more needs to be done to sustain and strengthen the recovery.’
Longer-term priorities after scrappage are also high on Everitt’s agenda – and ongoing issues around credit and finance will also be discussed in the meeting with Lord Mandelson.
Car Dealer Magazine will be poised to bring you news of any developments TODAY… keep returning back for news!
