SCRAP: The official line
July 16th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
MOTOR industry expert Nice 1 Ltd has analysed the latest scrappage data – and given its judgment.
The firm reveals the UK’s top 10 selling brands have accounted for 86 percent of all scrappage sales so far.
There have been, to the end of June, 29,796 scrappage deals – that’s 3.22 percent of UK sales to date.
However, the company also added that, of those 10 firms, eight of them would have recorded ‘a significant minus registration without scrappage.’
Only Kia and Suzuki, it says, would have achieved a sales increase without scrappage.
As we know, June 2009 was 15.7 percent down on 2008. But, without scrappage, things would have been much worse; a fall of 24 percent would have been seen, says the Theft Protect firm.
And 2009’s to-date decline of 25.8 percent? That would have been up to 28.2 percent without scrappage.
These figures ‘indicate the true value of the scheme to the motor industry.’
So you can crunch the full data in detail, we’ve attached the data below, so you can download it.
