Scrap scheme DELAY
May 18th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
CAR dealers including Ford and Honda are reportedly NOT yet delivering cars under the scrap scheme.
Administrative issues mean that, while orders can be placed, some brands have instructed their dealers NOT to hand over cars under the scheme.
Ford, which has the largest car dealer network in the UK, said this was because of last-minute complications in the small print of the scheme’s details.
‘We’re having to do things that we didn’t expect to be doing.’
The spokesman did say, though, that Ford is fully committed to the scheme.
‘We expect the issues to be sorted out within the next 24 hours. Then, deliveries to customers can begin.’
The delay has already been widely reported on channels such as Sky News, but Ford says things are not as dramatic as that.
‘We didn’t expect to be delivering many cars today, anyway; this is one for the longer term, and we are confident the issues will be quickly resolved.’
He would not be drawn on what they are, but did confirm that concerns over VAT were one factor.
‘It means work for all our car dealers. But both we and they remain fully behind the scheme.
‘We are still sure it will be very good for customers.’
