SCRAP: Nissan 8yr olds
April 23rd, 2009 by Richard Aucock
NISSAN will offer a £2000 minimum trade in for cars aged 8 years or older, not just decade-old motors.
There is but one proviso – it has to be against a new Nissan produced in the UK.
This means the £2k pledge is available on:
• Micra
• Note
• Qashqai
• Qashqai+2
It ensures the Micra supermini now boasts a dramatic starting price of £5995 – exceptional value for the popular hatchback.
Which is, as Nissan says, ‘a much more environmentally friendly choice than virtually any pre-2001 alternative.’ Backing up Ford’s earlier revelation about new car’s green credentials.
It also not only supports the 3900 workers at the Nissan Sunderland factory, but also gives the 5000 employees within the Nissan car dealer network (selling the second-highest number of Nissans in Europe) a boost.
The 8yr move comes because Nissan didn’t think the Government had gone far enough.
Nissan’s UK MD, Paul Willcox, said: ‘We are disappointed with the Government’s decision only to include cars over 10 years old in the scrappage scheme – we were expecting the offer to be available to pre-2001 models.
‘That’s why we’ve introduced a £2000 minimum trade-in for cars aged 8-10 years old for anyone buying one of our British built models.
So far, this has to be one of the most attractive Government-inspired scrappage schemes out there. Nissan car dealers will be poised to see how customers respond to the promise of a £6k Micra!
