SCRAP: Germany extends
April 8th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
SUCCESS for the German new car scrappage scheme is to see the scheme extend beyond the original deadline.
The scheme is going to TRIPLE in size, due to the massive success it has so far proven to be.
The original budget of just over £1 billion will grow to £4.5 billion, says the BBC.
This is because the effect it’s had on new car sales has been so dramatic – they are currently running at their highest level in a decade.
More than two million people will now benefit from the German scrappage scheme, says the BBC. This is far beyond the initial proposal of 600,000.
It’s provided a welcome problem for German car dealers – how to meet the massive demand offering buyers a 2500 Euro scrappage inventive is having.
German buyers, if they scrap a car older than 9 years, get the cash rebate off new cars, or used models up to a year old.
The scheme will now run until the end of the year.
