SCRAP: Delivered to PM
April 3rd, 2009 by Richard Aucock
CAR dealers will, within days, present a framework to the Government on a new car scrappage scheme.
The RMIF reports that the paper will be delivered to the PM soon, on exactly how the scheme could work – and the benefits it would bring to the country.
‘Measures to help revive new car sales in the UK, including the introduction of a vehicle scrappage scheme, must be enacted as soon as possible,’ said RMIF chairman Paul Williams.
‘The RMIF will be presenting Government with a framework outlining how vehicle scrappage could work in practice. The paper will be delivered to Government in the next few days.’
It’s the culmination of lobbying that started back in November last year – the RMIF was the first to call for a new car scrappage scheme.
Since then, it’s met major figures in Government and the Opposition to discuss the issue, including business secretary Lord Mandelson, exchequer secretary Angela Eagle MP, and shadow business secretary Ken Clarke MP. Other senior Government figures have also been briefed.
Car Dealer Magazine will bring you more details of the submission as they happen…
