Scrap boosts car sales

GOVERNMENT figures show the new car scrappage scheme is already helping boost car dealer sales.
Figures for April reveal more than 35,000 new cars have so far been ordered through the scheme.
Something that has won the praise of PM Gordon Brown. ‘I am delighted that over 35,000 people have already taken up the Government’s offer of help to buy a new car when they scrap their old one,’ he said.
‘This scheme not only helps hard-pressed consumers, it also helps protect British jobs by stimulating demand for new cars.’
Lord Mandelson added that ‘even after two weeks, the sales figures are impressive.
‘As it operates on a first come, first served, basis, and cannot last forever, consumers should get in sooner rather than later for these great deals.’
The figures show that 1 in 5 motorists buying a new car have used the scheme.
Cars that probably would NOT have been sold if it wasn’t for the scheme.
Nevertheless, the SMMT is still urging caution, noting that it will take a few months to reveal the true impact of the scheme.
But, so far, the signs are promising that the scrap scheme IS working!
