SCRAP: Auto Trader OK
April 14th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
AUTO Trader is the latest big brand to urge the Government’s new car scrappage scheme through.
The UK’s largest motoring website has thrown its weight behind the scheme, because stimulating consumer confidence will help solve the car industry’s problems.
A new car scrappage stimulus would play a key role in this.
Matt Thompson, marketing director at autotrader.co.uk, said: ‘We are urging the Government to introduce the new vehicle scrappage incentive scheme.
‘We think we can also add a great deal as the number 1 motoring marketplace, as we reach most motorists and do business with virtually every UK car dealer.’
Thompson says the site is currently showing over 20,000 qualifying vehicles. And would promote this to all buyers and sellers on the site.
He says the site ‘would communicate to all motorists on autotrader.co.uk whose vehicle qualifies, provide an easy guide to the scheme and introduce them to their appropriate local dealer if they were interested.
‘We would also work with dealers to clearly ‘badge’ nearly new cars that qualify and I’m sure there are more ways we could make it work better once the detail is agreed.’
This encouraging news of such dealer support would be backed up by inclusive explain-all features for buyers and sellers.
It’s all because Auto Trader really believes the new car scrappage scheme will work. ‘We simply can’t wait for the storm to pass and do nothing, as lessons from the last recession show a long and painful recovery period.
‘This is the best solution we’ve seen because it is targeted at the motorist and we have evidence already from Germany that it actually makes a material difference.’
With so many promises of such far-reaching car dealer support, it is great news from the country’s top motoring website. Will the Government agree?
