SCRAP: Beating hopes
April 28th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
CAR buying website buyyourcar.co.uk says the scrappage scheme is already seeing ‘significant’ interest.
Car buying enquiries submitted to the site have doubled since the scrap scheme was announced!
‘Despite some industry commentators showing concern,’ said a statement, ‘our findings have demonstrated that it is already generating overwhelming demand.’
The site says the scheme could even better the success of Germany’s scheme, where sales rocketed by 40 percent.
Some makers, says the site, are generating particular interest:
Enquiries up more than 150 percent:
• Audi
• BMW
• Honda
• Mercedes
Enquiries up more than 75 percent:
• Ford
• Nissan
• Toyota
• Volkswagen
MD David Long said that ‘the number of car buyers submitting enquiries for new cars has doubled, showing that the Government’s proposals to stimulate demand are working.’
And, suddenly, there is as-yet undiscussed surprise potential here for car dealers, he added.
‘Opportunities for internet sales and distance selling have just increased massively.
‘Most dealers are cautious when valuing part exchange cars without inspecting them first.
‘The beauty of the scrappage scheme is that as long as a car qualifies, it doesn’t matter about its condition. It’s worth £2000!
‘This makes selling far easier and the risk of over-valuing a car impossible.’
Chris Haycock, buyyourcar’s new car lead operations manager, stressed that car dealers need to take advantage now.
‘Demand is so great that the number of enquiries being generated through buyyourcar is overwhelming, and our network of dealerships who provide quotes to our visitors are enjoying unprecedented volumes of sales leads generated through the website.’
