Dealers praise scheme
August 6th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
CAR dealers are now feeling the positive benefits of the new car scrappage scheme, reports the RMIF.
Director Sue Robinson said that there were ‘thousands of cars bought by consumers via the scheme now on the road.’
In saying scrappage is responsible for the positive boost, Robinson is confirming the views of many in the industry.
‘Car dealers are reporting that the scheme is continuing to provide a halo effect for overall car sales, and is helping increase footfall into showrooms by general buyers as well as scrappage buyers.’
‘With fleets not in the market for new vehicles at present, it is private buyers taking advantage of the scrappage scheme that are leading the revival.
But she warned that the industry should start thinking about how to tackle the future – NOW.
‘For sales to return to consistently positive levels in the medium to long term, business and general consumer confidence must be encouraged as much as possible.’
