Hot SEAT Bocanegra
SEAT has debuted a surprise MINI Cooper S rival before our very eyes here at the Barcelona Motor Show!
Now, as well as the performance Ibiza FR and Cupra models, SEAT can now offer a striking luxury-performance model: the Bocanegra.
Using the same engine and running gear as the two hot versions (so, 150bhp or 180bhp 1.4-litre ‘twincharger’ petrol engine), it brings to production the hit concept from last year’s Geneva Motor Show.
Set to debut in SEAT dealers this October, the new Bocanegra (offered in three-door SC guise only) stands out courtesy of its unique body enhancements. These include:
• Black detailing on the unique front end
• Black door mirror caps
• Beefed-up wheelarches
• Unique rear bumper
• Bespoke diamond pattern seats
• Carbon fibre dash trim
• ‘BOCANEGRA’ script on the bootlid
The hot, stylish Ibiza also gets dark-tinted rear glass and a sunroof. It comes with a paddle-shift seven-speed DSG gearbox, and a standard XDS electronic limited-slip differential, too.
It was unveiled in Barcelona by outgoing SEAT President Eric Schmitt. Speaking at his last motor show before handing control over to James Muir in September, Schmitt drove it onto the stage to a backdrop of Ibizas through the ages.
Dusky pink paint and slightly toned down bodywork distinguishes the production version from the bright red concept.
Prices are estimated to start at around £16,000-£17,000.
Oh, and that word, ‘Bocanegra’? Means ‘black mouth’ in Spanish – just like its 1970s SEAT namesake…
