Peugeot boss on new 508
July 13th, 2010 by Richard AucockPEUGEOT has unveiled its brand new 508 saloon which it says marks an all-new design look for the French brand.
Set for launch at the start of 2011, the new saloon and SW estate will get their public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.
Peugeot says the new 508 carries design concepts first unveiled on the SR1 concept car design. It majors on ‘French chic’ and also includes a cabin of ‘indisputable’ perceived quality.
There will also be a hybrid diesel-electric version. Remarkably, this model will come with four-wheel drive and a CO2 emissions figure of just 99g/km!
It will achieve this through deployment of the HYbrid4 technology, that mates a 200bhp power output with all-wheel-drive. This figure is a combination of 163bhp diesel engine plus a rear axle-mounted 36bhp electric motor.
All models will also get e-HDi stop-start technology, which Peugeot says improves economy by up to 15 percent.
Other specific details on the new Peugeot 508 are limited at this stage, although the firm did say interior space was ‘exceptional’, boot space ‘generous’ and standard specification ‘very high’.
The saloon is 4.79m long, and the SW estate is 4.81m long. Both have optimised aerodynamics and a design focus on weight reduction.
