Renault leads March gains
April 9th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
CAR makers have rightly been falling over themselves to shout about their big new car sales gains for March…
But one car maker is shouting loudest of all – Renault.
The French brand has posted the greatest market share gain of all for March 2010, with Renault’s total shooting up a huge 1.8 percent. This puts the maker back up to 5.2 percent share overall after a year of declines.
Private sales were up 77 percent, but it was a massive 187 percent fleet sales increase that really helped Renault. It sold 22,771 cars and vans in March, up by no less than 10,943 on March 2009.
Renault has previously been stepping back from fleet sales, but is now concentrating on driving Motability and rental markets – however, only at a level that complements its retail mix.
This means Renault is back up to 5th best-selling brand in the UK. And it also means Renault is on track to meet its ‘Destination 5’ UK market share objective.
UK MD Roland Bouchara ‘our results now prove the strategy we implemented 2 years ago with our network partners focusing on profitable business has paid off.
‘The network has embraced our Destination 5 strategy and our sales teams have taken full advantage of our product and customer offers to drive up sales.
‘Our order bank is already four times greater than the same period last year, so I now look forward to us maintaining our position throughout the rest of 2010.’
The Clio and Megane led Renault sales, and both earned themselves a slot in the UK overall top 10 best-sellers.
