Toyota Prius prices up

March 26th, 2010 by Richard Aucock

prius-prices-on-the-upTOYOTA Prius used prices are beginning to rise again now the well publicised brake recall issue has passed.

Exchangeandmart.co.uk reports that prices, which plummeted a few months ago, are now on the up.

Falling from £9230 in December 2009 to £8650 last month, used values are staging a recovery.

This is being reflected in the number of enquiries for the car: it was the 125th most popular search in the last week of January, but 168th by the 21 February.

‘Early signs are that the demise of the Toyota Prius is not necessarily nigh,’ said Debra Healy, digital director for Exchange and Mart. ‘Search activity is creeping back up, suggesting that buyers haven’t written it off completely.

‘In fact, now could be a good time to buy because prices have fallen… with prices at an all time low, used car buyers may be able to bag a bargain.’

Toyota says it is well on the way to completing recall work on ALL affected cars, not just the Prius model. This is thanks to an unprecedented effort from Toyota car dealers, for which the firm’s top brass has publically thanked retailers.

  1. Scott Brownlee Says:

Sorry, but don’t believe anyone sold a 3rd gen Prius (car in picture) for under £10k. Can Exchange & Mart give you evidence?

A quick look at Exchange & Mart’s own listing shows only 19 Prius, and only one 2nd gen for under £10k (just!) with most above £11K.

Data from Cap & Glass’s suggest prices have either been steady or gone up through Feb.

  2. Michael Tang, Exchange and Mart Says:

Scott, you’re quite right that nobody would have sold a 3rd gen Prius for under £10k.

To clear up this matter – we only looked at the average asking price of three year old Prius models as advertised by dealers on ExchangeandMart.co.uk, for each month December through to February. We are currently investigating March figures and are confident that these will be in line with those quoted by CAP and Glass’s.

At the time of typing this response we have 237 Prius models advertised on our site.
