Police fine dealers £200
August 17th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
POLICE traffic officers are hitting unsuspecting car dealers with £200 fines, for breaking traffic regulations.
Car dealers towing vehicles with a low-load trailer are being stung at the roadside, because they are not fitted with a tachograph.
The fines are being imposed because, while the vehicle itself does not weigh more than 3500kg, the weight balance is tipped over when combined with the trailer.
Car dealer body the RMIF has warned retailers, following a spate of recent fines. While the law has been in place for some time, only recently have the Police been actively stopping and fining people.
RMIF director Sue Robinson commented: ‘A number of dealers have already been fined for operating their low-loader trailers without a tachograph fitted or used in the tow vehicle.
‘To avoid incurring a fine, dealers should consider the fitting of a tachograph on any tow vehicle that is likely to be used in combination with a low-loader.’
Big 4x4s as well as commercial vehicles are being targeted by Police: maybe it’s time you checked you’re not unintentionally breaking the law?

I’m wondering how this affects Farmers and their stock trailers. There are plenty ’round here? ( Mid-Wales ).
