Peugeot’s smart card
PEUGEOT will pilot its new Mu rental service in two UK dealers as it gears up to full deployment of the service.
Described as ‘groundbreaking’ by Peugeot MD Jon Goodman, the mobility service is genuinely new.
It is based around a credit card-style ‘Mu card’. Customers buy one of these for a one-off £10 charge, which gives them access to an online account.
They then ‘top up’ the card by buying points. These points can be exchanged online for the rental of numerous Peugeot ‘transport solutions’! They include:
• Cars
• Vans
• Scooters
• Mountain bikes
• Roof boxes, GPS units and other accessories
Crucially, it means customers need NOT own a car – they can use their Mu card to arrange transportation as and when necessary. It is for this reason the pilot run is debuting in the cities of London and Bristol.
Goodman said: ‘Never before has the rental customer been exposed to such an extensive product range, combined with periods of loan that offer flexible mobility and convenience.
‘Mu by Peugeot will help the marque extend customer relationships and bring new clients in to the Peugeot network.’
The two Robins & Day car dealers will carry special Mu signage, a bespoke reception desk and lots of POS advertising material. This will ensure customers unfamiliar with the whole car dealer setup know exactly where to go when they arrive.
It’s going to grow fast too, says Peugeot. The new Mu service will be deployed in 9 European countries between now and 2011.
