Ice ideal for droptops

January 14th, 2010 by Richard Aucock

perfect-weather-for-droptops-at-dealerCONVERTIBLE models are currently the hottest bargains around for hardy buyers reports one car dealer.

Carsite.co.uk says January is actually the ideal month to be selling open-top cars!

This is because prices are up to 17 percent lower than they were in September – meaning car dealers can both source bargains and sell them on at attractive prices to determined buyers.

Carsite’s Alistair Jeff said ‘whilst many are put off buying a convertible in the middle of winter, there actually couldn’t be a better time for buyers after a bargain.

‘Even with standard levels of depreciation on used cars, seasonal demand for convertibles has a far greater impact on price.’

If you want to take advantage of this stand-out sales opportunity though, you don’t have long, warns Jeff. ‘February and March typically mark the start of the price upturn for convertibles… (meaning) January is financially a very good time to be shopping around.’

Evidence of the variation comes from the Mazda MX-5. Last year, says the used car dealer, prices of some used trade models shot up by more than £1100 between April and July.

Have you been brave enough to promote a bargain open-top model in the current fierce snow and ice? If so, what has the response been – and would you do it again?
