Online auctions rocket
July 13th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
MANHEIM reports that its online auction service has already sold more cars than it did during all of 2008.
The landmark was reached on 1 July – meaning it’s taken half the time to top 2008’s sales total.
This points to the increasing popularity of online auctions for car dealers.
Manheim’s 2008 total was 13,157 cars sold through its Simulcast online service. The 13,158 sale of 2009 was a BMW 3 Series, bought by Wesley Daniel of WP Motors Ilford.
Proof of the system’s scope comes from the Manheim centre Daniel bought the BMW from – the company’s Leeds outlet…
‘Simulcast is a good system that allows us to stay close to our business,’ said Daniel, who’d used it nearly 200 times before.
‘Buying online is the future. It is convenient for our business needs, and we rely on it a lot to buy our vehicles.’
Mike Pilkington, MD of Manheim Auctions, said: ‘Simulcast just continues to grow and grow, as it becomes more readily accepted by the great majority of buyers..
‘Simulcast is now recognised throughout the industry as a well established, trusted and reliable business tool, that complements physical auctions by bringing benefits to both buyers and sellers.’
