October sales winners
November 12th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
NEW car sales for October saw more big market share increases – led by scrappage winner Hyundai.
Market share for the Korean brand was up 286 percent!
That’s over 100 percent MORE than sister brand Kia’s otherwise-glittering 156 percent rise. Fiat’s sales were also up 117 percent, while Nissan scored 108 percent, Suzuki 106 percent and Land Rover 101 percent.
And there was one more maker with a triple-figure sales increase. MG! The revived maker is building on low numbers, yes, but they’re still significant.
These wins contrasted with doom at Cadillac. Sales there were down 100 percent! How? Well, it failed to sell a single car throughout October…
It was grim too for Saab, which was down two-thirds, while there were many more brands recording falls. Even, surprisingly, smart. Surely scrappage is helping the eco car brand – or are other factors at work?
