Nissan all-electric Prius

NISSAN will later this week unveil a bespoke all-new electric car… but is teasing us before then with an insight.
The Japanese firm has today revealed more details on its Tiida prototype, which is being used to develop the model due next year.
What is it? An all-electric car, with 1.6-litre turbodiesel levels of power and torque. It’s significant to the UK because Nissan Sunderland has just announced it’s to make lithium-ion batteries to power it.
No word has yet been made on whether Sunderland is to produce the car itself – but we’d wager the battery deal gives the super-efficient plant a fighting chance.
We’ll be able to see the real car from 2 August, when Nissan pulls off the covers in Japan. With this teaser image, though, the firm is keen to underline how much work it’s put into the related systems, too.
This is no mere electric car – but part of a ‘system’ that monitors the car constantly. Benefits? Try these genius solutions Nissan’s to introduce:
• Sat nav map can display the total range you can drive on the current battery charge level
• Sat nav can calculate whether you’ve enough charge to reach your destination
• The nearest charging stations can be identified on the map
• A timer can be set, so the battery is only charged during, say ‘Economy 7’ periods
• The current charge of the battery can be monitored online or via mobile
• Texts can be set up to alert when the batteries are recharged
iPhone app for the new electric Nissan? We’d put good money on it…
