107mpg Toyota Prius
April 6th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
TOYOTA has shocked the world, by announcing its new Prius hybrid OFFICIALLY averages 107mpg!
The new model, on sale in May, has just been certified in Japan with the dramatic figure, an all-time low for new cars.
It also emits just 61g/km of CO2, thanks to the many innovations of the new 1.8 petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain.
This is way below any other new car on sale, including the tiny Smart ForTwo diesel, and Honda’s new Insight.
What’s more, the company promises these are gains car buyers will see in the real world, too.
European consumption figures are still to be confirmed, but if they’re as eye-opening as this, the competition is in for a challenge.
Of course, Vauxhall promises even more mpg from its 2012 Ampera. 140mpg good enough?
Seems the days of the ultra-eco new car are arriving!
