Eco label for used cars
August 4th, 2009 by Richard AucockUSED car retailers can now access fuel economy and running cost info on stock dating back to 2001.
This can be used to display new car-style fuel economy labels, to support a scheme being launched to car buyers in November this year.
The scheme is to run alongside the well-recognised new car eco green label, for consistency across car dealer divisions.
To help car dealers obtain these labels to display on their cars, the free new download service has been launched. It enables labels to be printed out for specific cars, simply by knowing the registration number.
The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership is providing the service, in collaboration with the RMIF and SMMT. Information comes from VCA records.
This means it’s easy to get the information from a simple data call-up – dealers can simply enter car registration details to get the information.
Used car dealers can access the information from now, prior to its launch to car buyers in November.
What information will the new label contain?
• Make
• Model
• CO2 emissions
• Fuel economy
• Estimated fuel cost for 12,000 miles
Cars up to two years old will have full info – but more limited data will be offered for stock back to March 2001.
Best of all, it’s free to car dealers. Sign up at the VCA used car labeling site.
Chris Brown of the LowCVP said ‘we’re aiming for a strong launch in November, and hope as many dealers as possible will be on-board with the scheme by then.‘
What’s in it for them? ‘Over the past year, car dealers and the VCA have noted increasing requests for information on the environmental performance of used cars.
‘Dealers who display the used car label on their stock will be demonstrating their customer focus and commitment to industry best practice.’

Best to link this to VED rates to really drive the message home.
