Motorpoint bucks trend
April 9th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
CAR supermarket Motorpoint has just posted a big monthly car sales rise of nearly 10 percent.
The March sales increase of 9.95 percent is a welcome bright spot for the car industry – and proves that there are still car buyers out there.
It is ‘substantial discounts’ that has driven the sales increase, says the car supermarket.
Interestingly, it also marks something of a change in buying trends for Motorpoint.
Says David Shelton, Managing Director of Motorpoint: “March hasn’t traditionally been a busy period for Motorpoint,’ explained MD David Shelton.
He said that, because Motorpoint’s discounts are not tied into any one period, the company doesn’t usually experience sales peaks.
Of course, for new car dealers in general, March is traditionally the busiest month of the year.
‘However, last month, we decided to offer additional savings on 09-reg models as a result of market conditions – and it seems to have really captured the imagination, with people voting with their wallets and buying from Motorpoint rather than their normal dealer.’
New car savings available at Motorpoint’s five sites include a Peugeot 4507 2.0 SE for £9499 – a saving of £6839 – and a £12,999 Subaru Impreza 2.5 WRX. That’s £6044 off list.
