Codes celebrates praise

August 23rd, 2010 by Richard Aucock

motor-codes-signs-up-another-copy1MOTOR Codes has won the approval of Which? after its garages found 20% more secret faults.

The scheme has only been running for 2 years but has already outperformed normal garages.

Motor Codes garages found 60 percent of faults, almost up there with the leading garages of the Bosch Car Service affiliation scheme (its garages spotted 64 percent of faults).

Independent non affiliated garages, in contrast, found 43 percent of faults. And the Good Garage Scheme? This was slated after its members found just 39 percent of faults – LESS than non-affiliated schemes!

‘Motor Codes is encouraged that after just two years of operation it is having such a dramatic impact in what is a long-term process of gradual change and improvement,’ said Chris Mason, Motor Codes director.

Way to go

‘We acknowledge that there’s still a way to go to ensure lasting improvements are made, but this independent research proves that our approach is working.’

As Which? is now calling for an industry-wide qualification while also reinforcing the importance of reputable accreditation, it means OFT-associated Motor Codes is well placed to grow with industry support.

Indeed, Motor Codes recently entered into a new collaborative relationship with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI). The IMI operates the Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme that proves a technician’s competence, giving reassurance to customers as well as raising the professional status and credibility of skilled individuals and their businesses.

Perhaps this could provide the accredited extra training Which? is demanding – and help reduce news such as today’s report?

  1. Ian Brown Says:

Autoconnect Ltd has a product called EVHC that helps technicians identify and report faults to the service staff, provides a printed copy of a ‘health check’ for the customer and records all the information for follow up and accountability. This product is used by franchised dealers all over the UK and is backed by several motor manufacturers. For more information, call Giles Daly at Autoconnect on 01527 66 444 or view more information about Electronic Vehicle Health Checks at http://www.autoconnect.co.uk.

  2. Louise Says:

I didnt think they were praised at all, by the sounds of it Which was saying that your garages came out the worst out of all, and that your garages are stll trying to rip people off. I think you need to look at the Which report in full!
