Supermini reliability
October 6th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
HONDA’S Jazz supermini is the most reliable model on the UK’s roads, according to new research.
Warranty Direct has discovered the Japanese hatchback suffered the least amount of breakdowns of all.
Toyota’s Yaris wasn’t far behind, either.
But the 1-in-10 failure rather of 4-7 year old Hondas contrasts to the least reliable car on the list – nearly HALF of all SEAT Ibizas recorded a fault!
It was significantly less reliable than the second-least dependable car, the Skoda Fabia, while the appearance of the Volkswagen Polo in the bottom 5 list suggests VW Group reliability could well be taking a hit.
The latest data is significant, says Warranty Direct, given how superminis are currently flying out of car dealer showrooms. The scrappage scheme really has given the sector a massive boost.
‘Mini segment registrations trebled in July, compared with 2008,’ said the firm. ‘Supermini volumes now account for a whopping 37.5 percent of all registrations, as motorists seek to make the most of the scheme discount.’
Which makes it a good job they’re generally among the CHEAPEST cars to keep on the road, says the firm.
What’s more, superminis are also usually more reliable – there’s an average 26 percent breakdown rate for the sector. This compares to 33 percent for the 4×4 sector, and 31 percent for the large family class.
Here’s the top five and bottom five lists of UK supermini reliability!
