MG dealers head to China
August 5th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
SELECTED MG car dealers have just got back from a big maker-organised fact-finding tour of China!
The premise of the visit was to find out what MG is doing over there, as the Chinese-owned brand looks to step up its UK relaunch plans.
China is the world’s LARGEST car market – 13.6 million cars are sold over there every year! Compare that to Britain’s 2 million annual sales, for an idea of just how large the car market is.
What’s more, MG cars are booming over there. This is potentially great news for the stalwart car dealers who have stuck with the brand – which is why they’ve been to China to learn more.
During their 8-day trip, the UK dealers visited MG showrooms in Shanghai and SAIC Motor’s new plant in Lingang where they saw MG6 in production.
They also visited Shanghai Expo 2010 (oh, and went to the top of the 1614ft tall Shanghai World Financial Centre, one of the world’s tallest buildings!).
Laurie Colyer from Apple MG in Gravesend, Kent, said: ‘I could see at first hand the size and commitment of SAIC to the MG brand and having now driven the MG6 I am even more confident that it will be well received in the UK.
‘The production and engineering facilities in China are superb and I was reassured by the highest standards of quality.
‘I can’t wait to start selling the car.’
