McLaren man on Council

mclaren-f1-man-for-automotive-councilMCLAREN F1 designer Gordon Murray is to become deputy chairman of the new Automotive Council.

The announcement by Lord Mandelson sees him sit alongside fellow deputy David Smith of Jaguar Land Rover.

Both will report to joint chairmen Lord Mandelson and Richard Parry Jones. Other Council members include:

Graham Smith: Toyota
Jon Carling: Aston Martin
Franz-Josef Paefgen: Bentley

Andrea Paver: Leyland Trucks
Hermann Kaess: Robert Bosch
Nigel Stein: GKN Auto

The Council was announced earlier this month as part of the Government’s response to recommendations made in the industry-led report from the New Automotive Innovation and Growth.

A Supply Chain Council and a Technology Council will also be set up as part of the Automotive Council which will address the strategic challenges facing the car industry over the longer term.

Membership has been drawn from a wide ranging area of expertise and represents every part of the sector, says Mandelson.
