Mazda kills off RX-8
September 3rd, 2010 by Richard Aucock
MAZDA’S RX-8 is the latest model to have time called on it because of Euro 5 emissions regulations.
To help shift the remaining stocks – less than 100 are left in the Mazda dealer network – it’s throwing equipment at it.
The 2010 RX-8 R3 model costs £25,540 and includes improved Recaro seats, Bluetooth, BOSE stereo and even a new steering wheel.
Mazda has also revealed UK buyers accounted for 14 percent of the 186k Mazda RX-8s built; ‘More than 26,000 enthusiastic drivers have purchased an RX-8 in the UK,’ said Mazda’s Mark Cameron.
‘Over the next couple of months drivers will be presented with a rare opportunity to acquire one of the very last RX-8s available in the UK.’
Quite a way to send off the four-door coupe, we reckon here at Car Dealer Magazine: if you are a Mazda dealer, do you sense the runout programme is actually an opportunity to give buyers something special?
More importantly, what are they going to buy now – do you expect Mazda to develop more upmarket versions of the MX-5 Roadster Coupe?
