Land Rover over worst?
October 12th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
LAND Rover reports a second consecutive month of sales increases, after a successful September performance.
7185 new Land Rovers were sold, a 27 percent increase on September 2008.
This total also ensures the UK remains the world’s largest market for Land Rovers.
But it’s the individual performances that really stand out. Discovery sales were up by nearly half, for example, while the Freelander 2 increased by over a third. Even the luxury Range Rover sold a quarter more models than it did in 2008.
According to Land Rover’s own figures, these represent big margins of superiority over rivals. Check out these stats:
• Range Rover outsold nearest rival (Mercedes S-Class) by 172%
• Discovery 3/4 outsold nearest rival (Volvo XC90) by 95%
• Freelander 2 outsold nearest rival (Honda CR-V) by 70%
• Range Rover Sport outsold nearest rival (BMW X5) by 50%
Land Rover MD John Edwards was, thus, suitably encouraged.
‘This is testimony to the outstanding success of the new 2010 model year vehicles, which have recently been launched to rave reviews.’
It also, he continued, ‘reflects a stability starting to return to the marketplace which is critical to the business.’
