Vauxhall factories saved
October 13th, 2009 by Richard Aucock
BBC News is reporting a deal has been done to save BOTH of Vauxhall’s car production plants in the UK.
The Unite union, it says, has done a deal with new owners Magna, one which also ensures there are NO compulsory redundancies.
Deal terms include a two-year pay freeze and other cost-cutting initiatives, but in return, there will be no enforced job cuts.
Instead, 600 posts will be cut, through voluntary redundancy.
Unite general secretary Tony Woodley said the deal ‘gives both plants job security and a future through to 2013, providing a good basis for a long-term future beyond that.’
Magna’s takeover of Vauxhall and Opel is expected to be confirmed later this week.
