JLR Academy honours
August 12th, 2010 by Richard Aucock
JLR has revealed the winners of its competition to find the country’s best technicians of 2010.
302 JLR technicians who’d attained Level 4 were entered into the running, from which 12 finalists were selected.
These competed in a big annuals skills final day at the Academy’s Warwick HQ on 6 August – from which two overall winners were finalised.
• Land Rover winner: Andy Young, Caffyns of Lewes
• Jaguar winner: Stephen Speed, Stratstone of Cardiff
Their prizes? A holiday to Turkey and South Africa respectively!
Bill Fennell, JLR customer service director, said: ‘This year’s competition has been tougher than ever to judge thanks to the outstanding high level of skills displayed by all the technicians.
‘The Academy is focussed on providing the best and most consistent level of technical service to Jaguar and Land Rover owners, and today’s contest has borne that out.’
Fennell also added the idea behind the Academy was to train JLR technicians ‘on all vehicles within the brands and puts them through the IMI approved, two-year, ATA programme (Automotive Technician Accreditation) with the aim of inspiring all students to achieve Level 4 Master Technician status.’
