SCRAP: Citroen’s scheme
April 1st, 2009 by Richard Aucock
CITROEN says it can’t wait for the Government – and is going ahead with its own scrappage scheme.
Launched today, the scheme is called the Citroen Trade-In Incentive Scheme. It gives new car buyers the following money off deals:
£2000: Cars registered before 2000, which have an official scrappage certificate.
£1000: Cars registered between 2000 and 2002: a scrap certificate is NOT required for these cars.
The scheme is limited in its reach, though: popular small cars such as the C1, C2 and C3 are excluded from the deal. It is restricted to the C4, C5 and the Picasso range of people carriers.
It does, however, mean a C4 can cost as little as £7995 – as it is IN ADDITION to any other cashback deals offered by Citroen dealers.
Xavier Duchemin, MD of Citroen UK, said: ‘Citroen is recognised for bringing innovative consumer offers to market, so we are pleased to announce that we have seized this proposed government initiative and extended its scope to launch our own Scrappage Incentive Scheme.
‘The Citroen Trade-In deal allows us to pass on significant savings to new car buyers, and also helps reduce the number of older, more polluting vehicles on the roads.’
Car Dealer Magazine praises Citroen for the scheme, despite it being somewhat counter to the Government’s aims of encouraging people into smaller, cheaper and greener cars.
