Dealers lose scrap leads

DEALERS are missing out on loads of hot scrappage leads, claims automotive service provider HPI.
The company has a bank of leads that could potentially lead to sales under the scrappage scheme – but confusion means they’re not being snapped up.
HPI automotive director Daniel Burgess has told Car Dealer that dealers have been slow to respond to the announcement another £100m had been pumped into the scheme by the government.
‘It may just be me, but news of extra funding seems to have been met with little fanfare,’ he writes for Car Dealer in his latest column.
‘I’m beginning to wonder if we’ve lost our appetite for scrappage. Maybe there hasn’t been enough publicity for the extension and everyone’s feeling a bit in the dark?
‘Or maybe it’s simply that the profit on new car sales has proven to be less than hoped?’
HPI has a huge number of scrappage leads that are available to dealers. They have been screened for CCJs and credit worthiness and are ripe for picking.
The data is gathered from insurance quotes which identify potential buyers who would be eligible for the scrappage scheme.
Dealers are provided with email and phone details for the customers and you can target by area, car type or make.
Burgess added: ‘A small margin for most of us is better than no margin at all. What’s more, the ability to up-sell service and maintenance programmes will provide longer-term revenue opportunities, ultimately helping dealers to boost customer loyalty and retention.
‘The scrappage scheme is offering a small window of opportunity which needs to be taken advantage of now.’

Perhaps it’s an indication that the scrappage scheme is running out of steam and people are looking elsewhere for better deals
